Lex Schoenmaker


LEX SCHOENMAKER started his career for ADO in 1965, he left a couple of times but always came back, he left for Feyenoord in 1971 where he became Topscorer in the European Cup with 19 goals, a record that still stands. In 1975 he came back to FC Den Haag where he played until 1982, he then stopped playing football. He did leave twice in this period. In 1979 he played for the Edmonton Drillers for 4 months and in 1980 he played for Fort Lauderdale. In his time in the Dutch Premier League he scored the total of 144 goals. 

After his playing years he started immediately as coach, he first club was (of course) FC Den Haag in 1982 where he started as assistent of the head coaches Rob Baan / Pim van der Meent and also coach of the A youth. He left in 1987 to become assistent of Rinus Israel, Rob Jacobs and later Gunder Bengsson and Pim Verbeek at Feyenoord.       In 1990 he left Feyenoord to take over the job of Aad Mansveld at amateur side Laakkwartier (Mansveld was very ill). From 1991 until 1994 he was coach of the amateurs of Volendam. In the season 1994/1995 he came back to Den Haag as headcoach where he nearly promoted to the Premier League (1 point short in the play-offs). After this year he left for FC Dordrecht where he already left in December to join Willem van Hanegem as assistent coach at Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia. In the season 1996/1997 he was out of work. From 1997 until 2000 he was headcoach at TOP Oss, in the last season he was fired after 4 matches. In 2000 he left for Saudi Arabia again, this time to Al Jazira where he stayed for one season. In 2001 he came back again to ADO Den Haag where he and Rinus Israel are still the coaches. In 2003 ADO Den Haag promoted to the Premier League.
